  1. That’s an appropriate entry for the day after J.R.R. Tolkien’s 126th birthday, as he resurrected the word māðum in his writings. He used the word mathom to mean the things that are too valuable to throw away, but not valuable enough to keep. The Hobbits were good at regifting.
