Old English Wordhord 
is this the origin of “swinging the lead?”!!!

The phrase “swinging the lead” has only been around since 1917 according to the OED (so not related to any Old English words). There are various theories on where it came from but nothing conclusive that I could find. The OED says it’s from an Army phrase.
